Winning the Race against Time

We have been in the US for almost 4 days and it feels as if we have been away for at least a week.  It is amazing what Alan and I have done and who we have seen in this short time.  But I can't jump ahead because there is just so much to say!

We managed to successfully leave Dallas on Friday, with just one little glitch.  With a 3 hour layover in Dallas, Alan and I spent this time aimlessly wandering around the airport, which was so different to the Houston airport.  To be honest, I have never spent so much down time in airports to get a feel for their personalities until this trip!  Houston airport is modern and business like, Dallas airport  feels like a whole different country with a much more Hispanic atmosphere.  After making a few purchases, we then managed to spend the rest of our food vouchers at Starbucks!  And arrived at the designated gate with  about an hour to spare.  This airport also had unlimited wifi, so we had plenty to entertain ourselves with.  But this also meant we were very distracted......

At the time we should have been boarding our plane, with our Priority Access tickets, we noticed there was no activity....why?  Checking the flight board, the gate had been changed and we had to  RUN to the correct gate!  Luckily it was in the same terminal.  How would we have ever lived down missing a flight after all we had been through to get it?

We landed in Fort Walton Beach Airport at 6:30pm, got our bags, our car and arrived at the Choctawhatchee High School football game only minutes after it started!

To put this into perspective, two years ago, we had attended this game around 9/11 and it had been Military Appreciation Night.  It was a very special event and we wanted to see it again.  We missed the pre-game activities but saw the game and all the flags and were very pleased just to be there.

I can never follow the ball!

Good thing I don't have a sense of smell.
I heard they were frying catfish,
and that would have been irresistible!

The half time show is one of my favourite parts of the game!

After the game, we had to make a mad dash to Walmart, arriving about 10pm, to find suitable attire for our next destination - the Florida State University game the next day!

Then it was time to get our keys and check into Steamboat Landing.  We were exhausted and knew we had to get up in 4 hours time to begin the 3 hour drive to Tallahassee in order to arrive at the tail gate party on time.  Unfortunately for us, this game started at 11:30am and was the only home game we would be able to manage.  But that is the subject of tomorrow's blog!

"It is going to be a bit of a race against the clock for us, but the squad is together now and really looking forward to the week ahead."   Chris Latham
